Origami Session: Birds

Today  I sat down and did some origami, something I haven’t done for a long time. I chose birds as theme and looked instructions up on the internet. The internet: It’s awesome!

Watercolor Wednesday: Lactarius sanguifluus

After a long dry period in Catalonia, finally rain starts to fall. The humid conditions have started the mushroom growth. One of the common mushrooms is the Lactarius sanguifluus (here know as Rovellò). Here is a watercolor sketch of two Rovellós found in the region of Bages:

The Felt Babushka Pin Step-by-Step

Following the post earlier this week, I a, going to show you step by step how the Felt Babushka Pin was made.
Firstly you need 3 templates for body, head scarf and face.
IMG_5061
Using different colors for the 3 components, cut out felt pieces. You need two for the body.
IMG_5065
Arranging face, head scarf and front body piece, sew the face on with white thread.
IMG_5067
Cut two pieces of black zigzag ribbon.
IMG_5068
Sew the two ribbons on the body, tugging the ribbon ends under the head scarf part.
IMG_5071
Using red thread, sew on the head scarf bottom edge. While you're at it you can embroider a mouth with the red thread.
IMG_5073
Embroider the eyes and, using green thread embroider a flower stem on the belly. As a blossom you can add a small glass bead.
IMG_5079
Now you can start to sew the back on. When you are 2/3 around the perimeter, you can fill cotton into the plush pin.
IMG_5082
Finish off the seam.
IMG_5085
Now you can add the pin on the back.

And you are done!
